The Grand Canyon would be our last stop on the Grand Circle Tour before heading back to Las Vegas. We both were a bit melancholy at the thought of the trip coming to an end and spent much of the ride quiet. And, like every day since we left, we drove in and out of a few passing rain clouds that just spit a little and didn’t warrant a stop to put on the rain […]
106. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area – Lake Powell, AZ
Decided to stop here for lunch by the water before our long haul to the Grand Canyon. It was such a beautiful, warm and sunny day that we could have sat there forever. But our time was limited and we vowed to come back some day; maybe renting a houseboat and really exploring all Lake Powell’s waterways and hidden canyons.
105. Horseshoe Bend – Page, AZ
Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona and is about 5 miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. We had planned for a quick stop there after leaving Antelope Canyon. What we weren’t aware of was the fact that the parking lot is about a ¾ mile hike one way to get to the rim of the canyon and again we were […]
104. Antelope Canyon – Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, UT
This is THE ONE stop that I cared about most on this trip – So much so that I did extensive research and booked a tour 6 months in advance. Anyone who is into photography has seen the unbelievable shots of inside these slot canyons and can understand the excitement and planning. And timing is everything here as the sun needs to be high enough in the sky to shine through the slots creating the […]
103. Monument Valley – Oljato, Utah
The Navajo Nation’s Monument Valley Park is one of the most majestic, and most photographed, points on earth. The great valley boasts sandstone masterpieces that tower at heights of 400 to 1,000 feet framed by scenic clouds casting shadows that graciously roam the desert floor. Every hour the sun and shadows shift creating another angle that accents these massive majestic formations. The park overwhelms you, not just by its beauty but also by its size. […]
102. Navajo National Monument – Tonalea, AZ
This was our first stop in Arizona after 5 days in Utah. It wasn’t really on our agenda but we saw the sign, needed a break from riding all morning and decided to take advantage of the opportunity to stretch our legs while taking in some scenery. The 1-mile round-trip trail is nicely paved and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. It ends at an overlook of the Betatakin ruins across the 560-foot-deep Betatakin Canyon. While not […]
101. Canyonlands National Park – Island District, Utah
Today’s riding was picture perfect…beautiful blue sky with puffy white clouds, temps in the low 80’s and no rain in the forecast. Canyonlands National Park is Utah’s largest National Park and is separated into four separate districts….each apparently very different from one another. We did not have time to see or experience them all (it could easily take weeks) and they are not connected in any way to each other via road (each has its […]
100. Arches National Park – Moab, Utah
All the hype about Arches is true and if you could pick one National Park in Utah to visit, in my opinion, this one should be it. And while it’s not that expansive compared to the others, from a photography standpoint, you could spend days here shooting all those arches from a hundred different angles. It was probably the most crowded park we had visited though thus far and parking was sometimes difficult. Also trying […]
