58. Alcatraz – San Francisco, CA

Let me preface this by saying that I wasn’t particularly excited about going to Alcatraz on our San Francisco vacation – I thought it was kind of a guy thing. But life and relationships are all about compromise so I went and I am very glad I did. We took the audio guided tour and I found it very, very interesting and not a guy thing at all. I did not know that the guards […]

57. Fisherman’s Wharf – San Francisco, CA

If you love fish and seafood, what’s not to love about Fisherman’s Wharf.  Hands down the best clam chowder I’ve ever eaten. But aside from the eating, we just loved hanging around down by the pier and watching the fishing boats come in with their catch. 56. Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco, CA

This is the granddaddy of all bridges-a man-made engineering marvel-and while it’s not really a destination, Golden Gate Bridge is surely one of San Francisco’s most famous landmarks and you can’t miss it. My recommendation for the best shot is The Marin Headlands which is a beautiful destination in itself. Located at […]

21. Venice Beach, CA

What a crazy and fun place Venice Beach is!  We had such a great day people watching and walking along the beach and boardwalk. Plenty of shops and arts and crafters selling their wares and some really great beachfront cafes to stop, rest and get a cocktail and bite to eat along the way.

20. Santa Monica Pier, CA

We spent an afternoon on the Santa Monica Pier, mostly to catch the sunset. I thought the pier itself was a little cheesy but the sunset was amazing and made the trip worthwhile.
