Held on the Capitol Square in Madison, Wisconsin every Saturday of the month from 6:30am-2:00pm, this farmers market is the best I’ve ever been to. So much so, that we drive 2 hours just to get there. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend a summer Saturday though and we usually make a whole day of it. There is always something going on in the area around Capitol Square, the mood always festive, and there is no shortage of outside cafe’s to grab a bite to eat, a cocktail. people watch, or listen to some live music. There is also some pretty good shopping either at the cute little shops or one of a kind handmade items sold in the stalls set up around the square. And, on top of some of the best looking fruit, veg and flowers, the market also offers fresh made local cheeses, sausages, jams and jellies, and the best warm cheese bread you can imagine. Everything at the market is grown or made locally-within 10 miles of Madison-nothing is brought in from anywhere else. And while the shopping is certainly fun, I also love to photograph the vivid produce as well as the colorful characters and street performers.
