We took a day away from Canon Beach to do this drive along the Oregon Coast. Called The Three Capes Loop , the 35 mile byway off of US 101 includes stops at the three capes called Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. In between the capes, the road winds its way along a super picturesque and rugged section of the coastline and then inland through dairy country, forest, and small beach towns. Highlights of the day for us were the old decommissioned light house at Cape Meares, the view of the coastline from there, the giant sand dune at Cape Kiwanda, and just beachcombing in Cape Lookout. Also a must is a stop in Tillamook for a sample of their famous cheddar cheese. While we did not do the tour of the Tillamook factory (we thought it would be kind of cheesy….ha ha ha), we did stop at The Blue Heron French Cheese Company for one of their award winning sandwiches and some shopping at the gift and specialty foods shop. There is also a 40 acre farm and petting zoo which really makes it a great place to eat and stretch the legs afterward.
