Kinsale is a colorful old fishing village on the south west coast. It’s a popular destination not only for tourists but for the Irish as well. We didn’t partake in any of the golf, yachting or fishing which is the biggest draw here but instead spent most of our time in the harbour area. There are so many artsy shops and pubs as well as some very nice restaurants and Kinsale has even been hailed as the “Gourmet Capital of Ireland”. Compact as the village is, you could easily spend the day exploring (or in my case photographing) all of the little cobbled winding alleyways. If you venture a short distance outside of the city there are some very beautiful beaches in Garretstown and Garrylucas and if you dare you can take a dip in the cold Irish water (we didn’t). But we did walk for a while, toes in the sand, and enjoyed watching the kite surfers braving the water and loving the wind. I’d call it Ireland’s version of the Caribbean.
