Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona and is about 5 miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. We had planned for a quick stop there after leaving Antelope Canyon. What we weren’t aware of was the fact that the parking lot is about a ¾ mile hike one way to get to the rim of the canyon and again we were not equipped with hiking boots. Not that is was a strenuous hike but it was hot, we had riding boots on, and the walk was only partially paved with most of it being in sand. But the reward we received when reaching the edge of the canyon was priceless. In order to get a great view though you really need to get pretty close to the rim and it should be noted that there are no fences or protection from falling to your death into the canyon. If you have a fear of heights, this may be a bit much for you.
