Charleston is the oldest and second largest city in the state of South Carolina and best known for its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel pre-Civil-War-era houses. And, despite the high humidity and sweltering temps, we loved everything about it. Although we only got to spend a long weekend (which was hardly enough), we really enjoyed the bustling French Quarter and Battery area which had plenty of great shopping and dining options. We also were very fortunate to have been there for the Saturday Farmers Market…surely one of the best I’ve been too. One of my favorite souvenir purchases was a beautiful handmade seagrass basket. All in all, I can’t say a bad thing about Charleston…..the food was great, the people were very friendly and southern hospitality was plentiful. In fact, Charleston was voted “America’s Most Friendly City by Travel & Leisure magazine in 2011 and by Conde’ Nast Traveler in 2013 and 2014.
