Bring your sense of adventure and plenty of energy if you plan to hike the dunes here. The tallest at 450 feet offers the best views from the top and is certainly more fun to run down than to climb up. We spent the entire day driving the parks 37 miles getting out of the car frequently to hike some of the smaller dunes and take in all that spectacular Lake Michigan shoreline. It’s certainly no wonder that Sleeping Bear Dunes was named “The Most Beautiful Place in America” by public vote on Good Morning America. There is also plenty of camping so you can take as long as you like to explore every square inch of the park. The surrounding area is also worth a visit with a must stop in Leland.  Don’t forget your camera (making sure to protect it from all the blowing sand) and even though pictures can’t do this place the justice it deserves, take plenty anyway.
