This was the first stop on our way up the Michigan shore to Mackinac Island. It is about a 2 mile walk one way from the parking lot to the lighthouse and for some this might be a problem (there is a bus that runs occasionally—you can find dates/times here For us, after being in the car almost the whole day, it felt great to stretch the legs and take in some of the lakeshore. We did pay the $5 fee to hike the 132 steps up to the top and felt the view was well worth it. It’s a lovely, classic lighthouse and there is a nice little light keeper’s house that is attached to it.
