35. The Vatican Museum – Rome, Italy

No trip to Rome would ever be complete without a visit to Vatican City and the Vatican Museum.  Some people travel there for that reason alone.  This was actually my second trip; my first being when I was just sixteen years old. I have to say, I enjoyed it much more this time and was more interested in the ancient art and history than I was back then. We spent the better part of the […]

34. Trevi Fountain – Rome, Italy

The Trevi Fountain in Rome is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the whole world. Located at the junction of three roads (tre vie) marks the terminal point of the “modern” Acqua Vergine, the revived Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome. While navigating these cobbled roads in search of the fountain, it’s probably easiest to just follow the thunder […]

33. The Sanctuary – Kiawah Island, SC

This place is as its name depicts….a true sanctuary and island retreat. Pure luxury and not a place I could usually afford but was given the opportunity to stay during a site selection inspection for a meeting. We were treated like royalty and should I ever win the lotto, will visit again. The stretch of beach that the hotel sits on is some of the most prime in all of South Carolina with great sunrises […]

32. Charleston, SC

Charleston is the oldest and second largest city in the state of South Carolina and best known for its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel pre-Civil-War-era houses. And, despite the high humidity and sweltering temps, we loved everything about it. Although we only got to spend a long weekend (which was hardly enough), we really enjoyed the bustling French Quarter and Battery area which had plenty of great shopping and dining options.  We also were very […]

31. The Cape of Good Hope – Cape Point Peninsula, South Africa

The Cape of Good Hope is the most South Western point of the African continent and the place where two mighty oceans (Indian and Atlantic) meet. Probably the most scenic and rugged portion of our drive around the cape. There is a funicular up to the lighthouse and paths to some of the most beautiful photo ops of the trip.  A must visit drive if you are looking to get outside of Cape Town.

30. Boulder’s Beach – Simon’s Town, South Africa

Easily one of my favorite parts of this South African trip and our drive around the Cape was our stop at Boulder’s Beach right outside of Simon’s Town. The beach is home to a large colony of jack-ass penguins that are so damn cute you could watch them waddling around all day long.

29. Hout Bay – South Africa

Hout Bay was the first stop on our Cape Peninsula drive.  We didn’t stay long–just long enough to grab a much needed cup of coffee and a few souvenirs. But in the short time we were there, we were lucky enough to see a harbor seal and some local musicians.

28. Table Mountain – Cape Town, South Africa

Table Mountain is a fixture in Cape Town and whether you decide to go to the top or just admire it from below, it is quite beautiful.  After admiring it from afar during our Cape Peninsula drive, we decided to drive up to the top on our last day.  And even though it was a pretty cloudy morning (90% of the time the top of the mountain is shrouded by clouds–the locals call it the […]
